Rafter Saw

The Pendu rafter saw cuts both ends of the rafter in one operation: the bird’s mouth, tail cut, and plumb cut. The operator loads from the bundle and stacks finished rafters for the next process. What goes away is the trip between stations to make different cuts.

No two rafter saws have ever left our shop completely the same. We build the machine around your product, not the other way around. Tell us every rafter size you produce, your material lengths, and where the notches fall on each, and we’ll configure a machine for it.

Let’s start the conversation

Every rafter saw is specified around the profiles the customer runs. These are the things that drive the build.

Your Rafter Profiles: Every size you produce, where the bird’s mouth and notches fall on each, and the cut types each one requires.

Material Size and Length: 2x4 and 2x6 are the common sizes. Incoming lengths of 8’, 12’, and 16’ are all typical. If your material size and length are outside of those ranges, that’s a conversation we’re built for.

Cutting Multiples: The build depends on how many multiples you need cut in one pass.

What’s on the machine: An onboard computer where patterns are pre-programmed and pulled back up from a saved list. On builds equipped with servo-positioned blades, the blades reposition automatically between patterns. On machines built for longer runs, some operators prefer to move blades by hand. In most builds we give you the fields to program new patterns yourself, as long as the pattern falls within the machine’s limits.

Any structure built with rafters Sheds, barns, outbuildings, and post-frame construction. The machine covers anything from an outdoor dog house up to a barn 16’ to 18’ wide and 20’ to 30’ long. If you are running big barn beams and need a rafter saw built around them, that is a machine we would build.

Operations running many profiles Builders running dozens of styles, each with its own rafter, are managing a lot of profiles. Stored patterns and a machine specified to the full range of what you run is what that calls for.

Consolidating stations If the plumb cut happens at one station and the bird’s mouth at another, the handling between them is the cost. One machine, both ends.

Standalone or in a line Most rafter saws run standalone. Lumber arrives as a pack already cut to length, gets run, and goes back into a bundle for the next process. It can also be built into a line if that is what your floor calls for.
