Production Systems

Pendu engineers and builds custom industrial handling systems for steel service centers, alloy and specialty metals operations, aluminum producers, pipe and tube processors, and other demanding industrial environments. The starting point is the customer’s material, floor layout, throughput requirement, and downstream process. From there, the system is designed around the operation, not the other way around.

Pendu’s capabilities include loading, staging, feeding, transfer, singulation, accumulation, lift-and-carry systems, custom conveyors, and process-integrated handling equipment. With engineering, fabrication, machining, controls, assembly, and startup support under one roof, Pendu provides one-source accountability for systems that need to fit the line and hold up in production.

Why Pendu?

01

Decades of Experience With Complex Materials.

Pendu’s industrial handling experience comes from decades of designing and building equipment for materials that are heavy, awkward, abrasive, inconsistent, or difficult to control. The product may change from wood to steel, aluminum, pipe, tube, or specialty material, but the challenge is familiar: move it safely, control it reliably, and keep the line running.

02

Engineered to Your Operation, Not the Other Way Around.

Every system Pendu builds is sequenced to your line speed, material profile, and floor layout. Your process doesn't adapt to the equipment. The equipment is designed around your process.

03

One Accountable Source.

Pendu handles engineering, fabrication, controls, and installation under one roof. There is no third-party integrator managing part of the system, and no ambiguity about who owns a problem when one comes up.

Pendu's equipment is designed and built in New Holland, PA. For operations that have sourced equipment overseas and dealt with what follows, parts availability and accessible support are part of the investment.

Capabilities

What Pendu Has Built.

Pendu custom-engineers handling systems for steel, aluminum, and wood processing operations, and it has the expertise to develop systems to handle other materials as well. Here are some examples of systems built for specific applications, along with capabilities available to outside operations.

Billet System

Pendu’s billet loader is engineered to safely stage and transfer hot aluminum billets from the furnace to the extrusion press, providing controlled handling of high-temperature material while maintaining press-side production flow.

Billet loader design requires reliable handling of 800–925°F aluminum billets weighing up to 75 lbs., with heat-rated contact surfaces and nearby components selected for both direct and radiant exposure. The system must also provide controlled staging through a billet backlog area, allowing downstream pick-and-place operations to draw billets consistently while maintaining extrusion press flow.

Electrical Panels

Pendu designs, builds, and wires the custom control panels that run the industrial systems it builds in-house. That same capability is available on an industrial scale to operations that need panels built to their own prints and specifications.

Pendu can take a panel from initial design through build and wiring from scratch or front a customer-supplied design.

All work is done in New Holland, PA, by the same team that builds Pendu’s production systems.

Aluminum Mill Stretching System

Pendu engineered the heavy-duty handling and stretching equipment used to position and tension aluminum mill products as part of Kaiser’s stress-relief and straightening process.

The main design challenge is applying significant controlled tension to long aluminum sections while keeping the product aligned, supported, undamaged, and safely contained throughout the stretch cycle.

Lift & Carry System

Pendu’s lift-and-transfer conveyor systems are engineered to receive cut steel or aluminum extrusions, bar, tube, and structural profiles from saw operations and efficiently route them to multiple banding, packaging, or downstream handling stations with rugged, mill-duty reliability.

The design challenge is not simply moving cut material away from a saw—it is reliably controlling long, heavy, and often varied metal profiles through multiple transfer points while protecting product quality, maintaining production flow, and withstanding the demands of a mill environment.

Steel Bundling & Shuttle System

Pendu’s bundling and over-under shuttle systems are engineered to receive, stage, transfer, and bundle steel or aluminum extrusions, bar, tube, and tray-loaded product from multiple infeed paths while returning residual material efficiently for fork truck handling.

The design challenge is coordinating inline feed, over-under shuttle transfer, elevator positioning, bundle staging, and residual return while keeping varied products organized and undamaged. The system must also use the bundling arms to apply the necessary tension and containment so operators can safely and efficiently manually band the newly constructed bundles.

Truss Production System

Pendu engineered the material handling and assembly system Superior Trusses used to build trusses from 16’ to 40’. Handling carts feed the table, and a pick-and-place system positions and rotates each piece of lumber before operators add the smaller members. A plate press then seats the connector plates, and a traveling roller presses the remaining plates and discharges the finished truss to the customer’s existing stacker.

The design challenge is handling wide variation in lumber length and width through a single compact machine while placing each piece accurately, and seating the bottom connector plate consistently, which had been the hardest step to control manually. Stored recipes let operators change truss configurations without reprogramming.

Every System Is Custom.

There is no standard configuration at Pendu. A billet loader built for one aluminum producer is not the same system built for the next. Heat ratings, staging capacity, transfer sequencing, controls integration, and the physical footprint on the floor are all engineered to the specific operation.

The application range Pendu covers today exists because customers brought handling challenges that catalog equipment couldn't answer, and the answer was always yes. A producer needed heat-rated contact surfaces at the furnace. A steel operation needed one system to handle multiple material profiles through a single transfer sequence. A wood processing facility needed waste handling that could keep pace with production volume. Each one is running somewhere today.

If your application isn't listed here, that's a normal starting point. Tell us what you're moving, what your line looks like, and what you need to accomplish. We'll take it from there.
