Slab Recovery
Pendu builds slab recovery equipment that turns slab waste into pallet stock.
The slab goes in flat side down. The machine takes the curved top off, leaving a flat board. An operator decides whether a board can be made from it, lays it flat side down, and the machine cuts it to width with saw blades before horizontal blades recover the board.
What would otherwise be ground into waste becomes usable pallet stock instead.
There isn't much to configure. The machine cuts recovered boards to width, typically 3½”, 4”, or 6”. If your operation needs something outside that, tell us what you're working with and we'll build to it.
FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Who decides whether a board can be recovered from a slab?
An operator. The slab is conveyed to the operator, who decides whether a board can be made from it before it's laid flat side down and cut.
Is slab recovery worth it?
Yes. A slab that would otherwise be ground into waste becomes a board, and a recovered board is worth more than ground waste. It's a value-added step for a scragg mill operation.
What does the recovered board get used for?
Usually pallet stock.
Where does slab recovery fit in the line?
After a scragg mill. The scragg mill squares off the log, and the slabs cut off the sides go through slab recovery.
