Log Cutoff Saws (Merchandising Saws)
A log arrives at the mill at whatever length it was cut in the woods, sometimes 70' or more. Before it can go through a scragg mill, it has to be cut down to a length the mill can use. That's what a log cutoff saw does.
A log cutoff saw is a different machine from the cutoff saws Pendu builds for the pallet industry. Both are cutting material to length, but a log cutoff saw is cutting a round log, while a pallet cutoff saw is cutting a squared board or cant. That difference in shape means a different scale of machine and a different thickness saw blade. The two do cross over between industries, but if you're looking for a true log cutoff saw, this is the one built for that job.
Pendu builds log cutoff saws for scragg mills, sized to the diameter of the logs you're running.
The driver is log diameter. Pendu builds log cutoff saws that accommodate log sizes typically found in scragg mills, with the capability to scale up from there for larger material.
Typical Scragg Mill Sizes: Sized for round logs up to about 20” in diameter.
Larger Diameter: For logs up to about 28” to 30”, built with a bigger blade. Same saw, same principle, scaled up.
Cutting long-length logs down to a usable length: A log can arrive at 70’ or more. A log cutoff saw cuts it down to the length your scragg mill needs before processing.
Getting the right saw for a true log cutoff job: If you need a saw that cuts a round log rather than a squared board or cant, this is that machine, sized to your log diameter rather than adapted from a smaller pallet-industry saw.
