- Built for operations running cants continuously at full production load. Automatic thickness adjustment handles variable material without stopping to reset between pieces, and the heavier drive package holds feed speed through dense or inconsistent stock.
Gang Saws
Width variation in finished boards doesn't stay at the gang. It travels downstream. Boards that are off spec slow assembly, create rework, and put pressure on every station behind the saw to compensate for a problem that started at rip.
Pendu gang saws are built to hold accurate cut width under full production load. The line covers the range: compact configurations handle material up to 6" high and 8" wide at feed rates up to 90 FPM while high-production configurations run a 7" infeed at up to 200 FPM. Heavy-duty construction keeps the saw in spec across full shifts, not just at startup. Every model runs or integrates directly into a complete Pendu pallet production line.
If your cants or throughput don't fit these configurations, Pendu engineers to your specification.
The gang saw line is configurable to match your production volume, material, and shop layout. The options below are chosen at build.
Inboard Cant Sizer: Adds thickness sizing in the same pass, removing a separate sizing step and the handling between stations.
Feed Drive: Hydraulic or electric. Hydraulic gives infinitely variable feed speed, which reduces scalloping and extends saw life through inconsistent stock.
Fixed or Random Width: Configurations run fixed-width production, random-width material, or both.
Automatic Thickness Adjustment: Press rolls set themselves to the material coming through, so operators aren't adjusting height between cants.
Line Integration: Runs , or in-line between the stringer notcher and the stacker with automatic chain infeed.
Comparison Guide
Compare. Configure. Contact.
Filter by how you process material to find the gang saw configuration that fits. If nothing fits quite right, Pendu builds custom systems to spec.
- Configured to break cants down into finished boards at consistent width. A practical fit for operations that need reliable output without the throughput demands of a continuous high-volume line.
- Set up for board and lumber stock rather than cants, including kiln-dried and surfaced material. Runs both fixed-width and random-width production.
- Adds an inboard sizing head so material is dimensioned and ripped in a single pass. Removes a separate sizing station and the handling between them.
- Designed to install between the stringer notcher and the stacker with automatic chain infeed, so the saw runs as part of the line rather than as a standing station.
- The smallest configuration built for operations that need gang saw capability without the floor space or power service a full production system requires.
FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know which gang saw is right for my operation?
Start with what the saw has to keep up with. If the gang sets the pace for everything behind it, that points us in one direction. If it's feeding a growing operation that isn't at capacity yet, that points to another solution. Material matters too, since consistent cants and variable stock call for different feed and adjustment setups.
The fastest way to narrow it down is a conversation about your material, your volume, and what sits on either side of the saw. Call us at 717-354-4348 or contact us to start that conversation.
Are the controls developed in-house?
Yes. Pendu engineers and builds its own controls, which matters most on higher-volume configurations where feed rate management, arbor speed, and line integration all must work together. There's no outside controls integrator in the middle, so when something needs adjusting, you're able to call the people who wrote it.
What is the process of integrating a gang saw into an existing line?
If you're adding gang saw capacity to an existing operation, Pendu's engineering team will look at what's already running, including upstream cant handling, downstream trimming and stacking, and design an integration that doesn't create a new bottleneck somewhere else. The same applies to facility constraints. If your floor plan or existing structure limits where the saw can go, our team will design a machine with those factors in mind.
What does the engineering and customization process look like?
It starts with your operation: what you're processing, your cant dimensions, your target throughput, and how the gang saw fits into the line around it. For retrofit situations, Pendu will also review your current layout to understand what integration constraints exist before any design work begins. From there, Pendu's engineering team works up a design that fits your application. Most of the team has been here 20+ years. The engineer who was involved in your project from the start remains involved through installation.
What kind of support can I expect after install?
Pendu is based in New Holland, PA, and when you call, you reach people who know the equipment. We’re available to answer your parts sourcing, troubleshooting, and service questions. See our After-Purchase Support page for more information.
