Lumber Stackers
Pendu's lumber stacker takes single layers of boards and builds them into a finished bundle. It runs different lengths and different pack configurations, and every pack comes off square, tight, and built the same way, whether it’s headed for the kiln or out the door.
Pack width is built to your specification. An automatic stick placer is available if you're stacking for the kiln.
Two things get decided on a lumber stacker, and both are yours to specify.
Pack Width: 4’, 6’, and 8’ are all standard requests. Your dry kiln size is what drives the choice.
Stick Placer, or Not: Sticks typically go every 2’. On a 16’ pack, the placer lays every stick in one cycle instead of a crew hand-placing each one. If you only build dead packs, you skip the placer entirely.
What we'll ask you: type of lumber you're stacking, the finished bundle size you need, and how fast product is arriving at the station. That last one helps us to determine whether the stacker can be built to keep up with the capacity coming at it.
Green lumber headed for the kiln: A pack of green lumber comes in, a tilt hoist sits in front of the stacker and slides off one layer at a time, and the stacker rebuilds it with sticks between layers so air can move through and dry it. The pack goes out to dry, comes back in, the sticks come off, and it's rebuilt as a dead pack.
Dried, sorted material off a chain: Material arrives already dried and already sorted, and you just need single layers built into a finished stack. No sticks, no placer. If you never put lumber on sticks, a bar incline or unscrambler feeds the stacker instead of a tilt hoist.
FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you build 6’ or 8’ packs?
Yes. Pack width is built to spec, and 4’, 6’, and 8’ packs are all common. Most mills size the pack to their dry kiln, so that's the number to bring us.
Will it keep up with my line?
The stacker is built to the capacity arriving at it. Tell us how fast product is coming off the upstream equipment and the stacker gets sized to keep pace.
Do I need the automatic stick placer?
Only if you're stacking on sticks for drying. If you build dead packs exclusively, the placer isn't part of the machine.
