Pole Framing
Pendu custom builds utility pole processors that move the pole horizontally from station to station and handle the whole sequence. Cut the top, whether that's flat, angled, or peaked. Mill the flat gain where the crossarm mounts. Drill the vertical holes, then the horizontal ones at the last station, including the one for a dusk to dawn street light if that's part of the spec.
Poles are end-justified at the infeed by driven hourglass rollers against a back stop, turner wheels roll the pole into position, and laser lights help with orientation. Every machine is built to the customer's stated requirements.
These are built to spec, so the conversation starts with three things.
Pole Length Range: Your shortest and longest pole. This drives the size of the whole machine.
Top Treatment: Flat cut, angle cut, or peak. The roof peak station handles it.
Hole Configuration: This is where the variation lives. Vertical holes, horizontal holes, where each one goes, and the gain length on the top or bottom of the pole. Large producers run well over a hundred configurations, and the machine gets built around yours.
Infeed and outfeed chain decks, waste conveyors, and control cabs can be added to the system.
Operations still framing by hand: This is most of the market. Framing a pole manually means cutting the top, milling the gain, and drilling every hole with a crew working the pole. A processor does the sequence in one pass with the pole moving through stations.
Producers running many configurations: Different utilities specify different hole patterns, gain lengths, and top treatments. The machine handles the range rather than being reset for every job.
Poles with fixtures: A horizontal hole at the last station for a dusk-to-dawn street light, or whatever else the spec calls for.
FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
What pole lengths can you handle?
Tell us your range. The machine gets sized to it, and the honest answer on very long poles is that it becomes a cost question more than a capability question. Worth a conversation either way.
Can it handle our hole configurations?
Yes. Hole placement, gain length, and top treatment are all built to what you specify. If your configurations number in the dozens or hundreds, that's normal for this equipment.
What material do you process?
Wood poles, mostly pine. If you're running something else, ask us. Custom engineering is what this machine is.
