Operator’s Cab
Pendu builds operator's cabs that the operator works from inside. Heated, air-conditioned, insulated, and soundproofed, with laminated safety glass, lights, 110-volt receptacles, storage shelves, operator chairs, and doors. The cab is internally pre-wired, and you supply a single-phase 20-amp service to it.
The other job the cab does is protect the electronics. A lot of the controls for the equipment live inside it. Picture your computer sitting outside in a snowstorm, and the reason becomes obvious.
There's no standard cab. Two things size it.
Number of Controls: What the operator is actually running from inside determines the layout and how much room the controls take.
Number of Operators: One operator, or two. When two machines sit close together, it sometimes makes sense to build one cab sized for both operators instead of two separate cabs. Sometimes it doesn't. We'll work through which applies to your layout.
Elevation Stand, Catwalks, Steps, and Railing: Available, and built in-house. Pendu equipment often sits 10’, 11’, or 12’ off the ground, so getting the operator up to the cab and around the machines is part of the same conversation. Some customers have us build it while others source it locally. Shipping catwalks from Pennsylvania to California can run several truckloads, so it doesn't always make sense to have us do it. Either way is fine.
Sawmills without climate control: Outdoors, or under roof with no heat. The operator stays in a heated or cooled cab instead of working in the weather all shift.
Running equipment from a fixed station: A large chop saw cutting logs to length, for example, operated from inside the cab rather than at the machine.
Elevated operator positions: Where the operator needs sightlines over a line, the cab goes on a stand with steps and catwalk access.
Operations outside wood processing: These cabs don't have to go in a sawmill, and they don't have to go in a wood operation at all. Any environment where an operator runs equipment in bad conditions is a fit.
FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Can one cab serve two operators?
Yes. If two machines sit close enough together, a single cab built for two operators often makes more sense than two cabs. It depends on your layout.
Do you build the stairs and catwalks, or do I?
We build them in-house, and plenty of customers have us do it. Tell us where you are and we'll be straight with you about which way makes more sense.
Does it have to go in a sawmill?
No. Wood processing is where most of them end up, but the cab isn't specific to it.
What do I need to supply?
One single-phase 20-amp service. The cab comes internally pre-wired.
